Want an adrenaline fix in the heart of Morocco's Atlantic coast? If you are visiting Essaouira and looking for the ideal outdoor activity to explore wild landscapes accessible only by off-road vehicle, the 3-hour quad ride is the benchmark format.
Between argan forest, full immersion in Cap Sim's dune massif, and crossing miles of deserted beaches, this 3-hour circuit is the perfect balance of panoramic discovery, technical introduction, and thrills.
Why choose the 3-hour package?
While the 1-hour ride offers a quick taster and the 2-hour tour delivers a beautiful panorama, the 3-hour circuit is the first route that takes you to the legendary Cap Sim Lighthouse and the very heart of the "Little Sahara."
- The "Little Sahara" — Access to pristine dunes sculpted by trade winds, a true dune escape beyond introductory trails.
- Cap Sim Lighthouse — Spectacular panorama over cliffs and Atlantic breakers.
- Slalom trajectories — Pure sand-sliding sensations, ridge climbs and descents.
- The ideal pace — Several photo stops, mint tea, and unhurried riding.
- Unmatched terrain diversity — Trails beneath argan trees, fine sand ridges, long straights on tide-hardened shoreline sand.
Detailed route: 3 hours of adventure
All rides set off from off-road bases in Diabat, the charming village perched on the heights of the Oued Ksob estuary, known for its hippie past and Jimi Hendrix's legendary visit in the 1960s.
1st hour: pickup & forest trails
After a safety briefing and introduction to the quad (automatic transmission, very intuitive), you leave the base by crossing the sandy bed of the Oued Ksob.
The route first winds through a green landscape of mimosa, eucalyptus, and magnificent centuries-old argan trees. This first section on red earth track lets you get comfortable with turns and calibrate your speed.
2nd hour: crossing Cap Sim dunes
You then tackle the Cap Sim dune plateau. Here the scenery changes radically: the ground becomes loose, and golden sand stretches as far as the eye can see.
Under your expert guide's direction, you learn dune-crossing technique: keep smooth acceleration on climbs and negotiate descents gently. The view of ridges facing Atlantic breakers is simply magnificent.
3rd hour: Cap Sim lighthouse & return along the great beach
Arriving at the Cap Sim Lighthouse, perched atop rocky cliffs, a photo stop is a must facing waves crashing against the reefs. It is the perfect spot to enjoy hot mint tea prepared by your guide.
For the return to Diabat, the route follows the vast southern beach. At low tide, hardened sand by the water's edge allows nice accelerations and an incomparable feeling of freedom before reaching the starting point.
Indicative prices for the 3-hour ride
Rates are generally all-inclusive (quad, fuel, guide, helmet, protective goggles, and mint tea).
- Solo Quad (1 rider) — €65 – €75 (650 – 750 MAD).
- Duo Quad (1 driver + 1 passenger) — €90 – €100 (900 – 1000 MAD).
Tip: The Duo rate is very good value for couples or parents accompanying a child. If you want pure riding sensations and full speed control, the Solo format remains the most recommended.
Practical tips for a successful ride
- Closed shoes mandatory — trainers or hiking shoes.
- Long trousers — jeans or canvas to avoid chafing.
- Windbreaker / light jacket — trade winds cool the coast.
- Scarf or shemagh — protect mouth and nose from sand.
- Sunscreen and sunglasses.
Driving licence: You generally need to be at least 16 or 18 and hold a licence (car licence) to drive. Passengers are accepted from age 6 or 7.
Safety: Always keep 10 to 15 metres from the quad ahead and rigorously follow the tracks laid by your guide.
