Essaouira is known for its ramparts, blue-and-white medina and fishing port. The wild Atlantic coast starts just south of town. To ride it, leave the pavement: Essaouira Quad Tours runs guided ATV tours from Route de Diabat, with free hotel pickup.

1. Why ride off-road around Essaouira?
- Sandy tracks, forest paths and the shoreline are closed to a normal car.
- Dunes and the Atlantic beach sit a few minutes from the medina.
- The tracks pass Diabat, argan trees and the rural south of the city.
2. The terrain
- Diabat — the start, a few minutes south of the medina, linked to Jimi Hendrix's stay in the 1960s.
- Atlantic beaches — packed sand and sea spray, depending on the tide.
- The argan forest — shaded trails on the way back from the dunes.
- Toward Sidi Kaouki — hotel pickup covers 30 km, including this surf village. The longest guided ride is 4 hours, through Cap Sim, Taguenza and the argan forest.
3. Which quad ride to book
Prices are per quad, booked direct. A single quad is one rider. A double quad is two people.
- 1 hour — €30 single, €45 double. First ride on the dunes and beach near Diabat.
- 2 hours — €50 single, €70 double. Beach, dunes toward Cap Sim, mint tea, return through the argan forest.
- 3 hours — €65 single, €90 double. The Grand Tour: Diabat, coast, dunes, forest and a tea stop.
- 4 hours — €90 single, €110 double. Cap Sim, Taguenza and the argan forest, with a Berber tea pause.
4. Practical tips
- Quads are automatic. A guide briefs the group and leads the track.
- Helmet included. Wear closed shoes, clothes that can take dust, sunglasses and a light windbreaker.
- Drivers must be 18. Passengers must be 16.
